“Cinder”

Bayside’s Surefire Blackhawk – AM/CAN MH

FC/AFC Midknight’s Shot in the Dark – MH, CD x Bayside’s Whirlwind – MH

June 2, 2004 to May 8, 2018

Cinder came to us at 10 weeks from Bayside Labradors in California and was Don’s heart dog from the moment she arrived. She was the result of a Conformation / Field breeding and truly represented the “best of both worlds”. Cinder had the very calm, sweet and loving temperament of her mother and CH/MH grandfather, and the “get up and go” of both her accomplished parents.

Cinder was our first female black Labrador, and was also the first of our dogs Don trained for hunt test competition on his own. She was an amazing performance dog both in terms of hunt tests and hunting, and she loved her work. She was also our resident queen who had a very soft, playful and silly side that made us laugh.

She obtained her Junior Hunter title at the tender age of 1, and qualified and attended the 2011 and 2012 Master Nationals.  In addition to being a wonderful field competitor, she was a great gun dog for both upland and water fowl hunting.  She was an exceptional marker, very trainable and an extremely steady girl. Unfortunately, Cinder had to retire from performance work earlier than expected due to Laryngeal Paralysis.

Though Cinder passed all her health clearances, due to her other health issues we decided not to breed her. She was spayed in 2009. We would have been thrilled to have many generations coming down from her, but it wasn’t in the cards.

Cinder was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2018, and though she had many good days to follow, on May 8th we had to say good-bye. Just 3 weeks before her 14th birthday. She joined her hunting buddies Trigger and Ranger, plus all her kitty friends who went before her.

Cinder had this adorable way of pinning back her ears when she was happy, and as she would run they would flap and looked like little “wings”. We always wanted to capture it on video but were never able to. Those little ear wings have now turned into angel wings. We love and miss her very much and cherish all our memories together.

Many thanks to Les & Deb Zeigler of Bayside Labradors for allowing us to share our lives with such a sweet and amazing girl.  Cinder remains forever in our hearts.
