Ranger was the second dog bred by Interlochen Labradors to receive his Master Hunter title, and was the first to qualify for a Master National!  He was also a 2010 PSLRA All Around Dog Award Recipient.

He earned an International Show Championship and had 5 points in Canada with very limited showing. Ranger never really enjoyed conformation because it doesn’t involve birds.

Ranger was a very special boy. Not only did he excel at field work, he was one heck of a hunting dog. He had been described as a “freak of nature” since he had so much natural talent and drive for a dog out of full conformation lines. He had the truly wonderful Labrador Retriever temperament, and was a loving and affectionate house dog. 

Ranger sired our boy Magnum who is an AM/CAN Master Hunter and a 2015 Canadian Master National Qualifier. In addition to Magnum, his off-spring have competed in hunt tests, the conformation ring, obedience and agility trials. Others have been therapy dogs, gun dogs, and loving family companions.

We still incorporate similar lines into our current breeding program to maintain these outstanding qualities. 

Ranger gave us many years of love and joy, but left us suddenly and unexpected on July 2, 2014 a few months shy of his 14th birthday.

I believe we learn from all the living beings who enter our lives.  Ranger’s resiliency and “don’t sweat the small stuff attitude” reminded me not to take life too seriously. I would like to thank him for those lessons.

I know most of us have nicknames for our dogs, and Ranger was no exception. He was very cute, had a teddy bear face, and it was the reason he was nicknamed “Pooh”. He also had a great stop that I referred to as his “spot”. I kissed it often and would say “I love you so Pooh.” I miss that, and still miss him very much.
